 Children

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs." – Matthew 19:14

At Highland, children can wonder, worship and grow with God.  Sunday school teachers, VBS leaders, the folks with whom we worship--all are working together to help your child know God’s love.

Baby Day

Early in January the church traditionally takes a Sunday to remember Jesus’ baptism and to remind each of us of our own baptism. For the last several years, we have also celebrated this day as "Baby Day, " an opportunity for us to lift up the very youngest among us—to celebrate them and their families. On January 7, we will have a special bulletin insert listing our youngest children and their pictures, and we will hold a gathering for these children and their parents in Room 107 during the Sunday School hour. One of the favorite features of the "Baby Day" is the "take-home lunch" (since naptime is calling!) that each family can enjoy at their convenience.
If you would be willing to help prepare the take-home lunch please contact Amy Takahashi.

Sunday School

Our children’s Sunday School hour is an opportunity for your children to hear and learn the stories of our faith.  While learning the stories our children are also building relationships with their age-group peers and loving adults.  Our elementary and preschool classes use the Deep Blue Curriculum by Cokesbury.

Sunday School begins at 9:20 and concludes at 10:20 so that families may worship together at the service of their choice.   Our elementary children (K-5) start together in room 202 at 9:20.  Our Opening Time Together includes music, the Bible story for the day and learning about our mission offering for the month.  At approximately 9:35/9:40 the children move to their classrooms for the remainder of the SS hour.

Nursery Care

Our very youngest children begin to know that the church is a safe and loving – and fun! – place in our nursery.  Our nursery staff and volunteers are trained and screened.  Children up to age 5 may stay in the nursery during the worship services.  The nursery is in Room 107.

Children’s Choirs

Highland’s Children’s Choirs are for all children ages 3 through 5th grade who enjoy singing, playing musical games and rhythm instruments, fellowship with others their age, and providing a music ministry to others both inside and outside the church.   Children do not need to be a member of the church to participate.  All rehearsals are on Wednesdays from September until May.   Contact our children’s choir director, Jo Anne Swartz for more information.
